The Imperial Senate will not sit still for this

US Senate blocks gay marriage ban. Thank god for that. Leaving aside the fact that it's a cynical political manoeuvre designed to appeal to right wing bigots, as my wife so rightly put it: does Bush really have nothing else to concentrate on right now?

He's concentrating on not losing the seats and buggering up the party any further come November, which is sadly not an unexpected way for a politician to prioritise :(

A good comment piece in the guardian today reminding us that while its easy to throw stones at what he does for the religious right, what he does for business interests is less apparent but rather scary.

One can't help but suspect that this rather obvious "My God! Look over there!" is actually a distraction from the real sleight of hand.

One of his former aides was on the radio a few weeks back and said words to the effect: "People think Bush is nice but stupid. They're wrong on both counts".

The Daily Show picked up on this yesterday. As they said, it's funny how this only matters in even years - ie years with elections in them.
