I'm a little surprised at your characterization of the episode as frantic, as one of my main complaints against it (and "The Sontaran Stratagem") was that it was very padded. A lot of sequences repeated themselves (Donna's back and forth with her family, which at any rate was a retread of similar interactions between Rose and Martha and their families) and others took forever to get to their obvious conclusions (smashing the car window is the most egregious example, but also the betrayal of Rattigan by the Sotarans and UNIT's arrogance and its comeuppance). I know that old Who fans often complain about the demise of the serial, but this story struck me as a single hour stretched almost past its breaking point to fit two.
