I can only put it down to residual resentment from Sin City

I've seen both - I'm one of the few who really enjoyedSin City. But if I hadn't known they were based on comic books by the same guy, I wouldn't have guessed there was any link between them. Certainly they're both violent, and certainly there are *some* stylistic similarities. But that's about it; in all other respects they're really totally different.
