I thought Good Night... was better than Syriana, although Syriana is still quite good. In one sense they are very different films, because GN&GL is very tightly focused whereas Syriana splits its attention between multiple plot threads that only loosely interact.
Syriana does take a while to really get going, because it has to introduce so many plot threads, but it does become quite compelling by the end.
