I must admit, even though I enjoy Fowler's Bryant and May series, and now only have the final book to go, I do find Bryant in particular, to be rather wearing. Although, at least in the later books, even he is shown as being unhappy at his disconnect from the rest of the world.
The rest of the series is a little patchy; one of the books is set in the late Seventies, which works quite well, but the story lets it down a bit.
