I never liked James very much until I saw them live for the first time, a little after their commercial peak, at V2000. Brilliant - kinetic, inspirational, joyful stuff. I also caught them on Tim's last tour with them - again, it was really, really great. Timmy's a bit bonkers, it must be said, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if his solo album consists of his chanting tonelessly to some dance track ... but it would probably still be charismatic.
