I wouldn't judge Lost S3 at all yet.
They've openly admitted the first block of 6 episodes was only going to be about the core three characters (mostly, even though you get flashback episodes NOT about them) and as such it's hard to judge it.

There is a lot of potential being opened up from it IMHO.
